How to Create and Use Target Product Profiles to Guide Vaccine Development
Took place 1 October 2026, 16:00 GMT
Watch now on the VALIDATE Hub.
This two-hour VALIDATE workshop explored how Target Product Profiles (TPPs) can guide vaccine development from early research through to real-world impact. Participants examined the key attributes of a TPP, how performance criteria are agreed with stakeholders, and the differences between intervention-level and candidate-specific profiles. The session also covered how TPPs evolve as evidence and priorities change, and how they support decisions about whether to progress a vaccine candidate.
It covered:
- What a Target Product Profile is, and why it is important for guiding vaccine development
- Which product attributes and characteristics should be included in a TPP
- How minimum and preferred performance criteria are agreed with disease experts, potential end users, implementers, payers and other stakeholders
- The difference between an intervention-level TPP and a TPP for a specific clinical candidate
- How TPPs evolve as evidence, priorities and development pathways change
- How TPPs can support go/no-go decision-making during clinical candidate development
